Set up Apparel

Some of Apparel's sections read data you keep on your products — a drop's date, a formula, a fit. A theme cannot create that structure for you, so this page lists every definition the theme reads, exactly as Shopify asks for it. It is generated from the theme itself, so it never asks for one the theme no longer reads.

Type names and descriptions are in English, the way Shopify admin names the types when it is in English. In another language you will find the same types under translated names in Settings → Custom data.

In this order

  1. Create the metaobject definitions first, in Settings → Custom data → Metaobjects, with the fields listed below. The product metafields that list entries point at them.
  2. Create the metafield definitions in Settings → Custom data → Products (and Variants, where the table says so), with the namespace and key exactly as written and the type shown.
  3. Fill them in on each product, in the Metafields panel at the foot of its page in Shopify admin.
  4. Open the theme editor. The sections that read them show the data at once; a section that still has nothing to show says what it needs, in the editor only.

Metaobjects to create

The type must match exactly; the name is yours. Give each definition storefront access, or the theme cannot read its entries.

Metafields to create

Namespace and key must match exactly. Give each definition storefront access, or the theme cannot read it.

  • hullara.drop_numberOn products

    Single line text single_line_text_field

The drop's number — 014 — on the release board, the hero, the card and the product page.

  • hullara.drop_opens_atOn products

    Date and time date_time

When the drop opens. Before it, the product reads "Opens …" with a countdown and a reminder form instead of a buy button.

  • hullara.restockOn products

    True or false boolean

Marks a drop that comes back, so the board says "Restock" rather than a new number.

  • hullara.accentOn products

    Color color

The product's own color, behind its card or a bento tile when those settings ask for it.

  • hullara.colourwaysOn products

    Product (list of products) list.product_reference

The other colors of a product, when each color is a product of its own; Colorways links them.

  • hullara.colourwayOn products

    Single line text single_line_text_field

This product's own color name in that list.

  • hullara.badgeOn products

    Single line text single_line_text_field

A word on the product's card — Organic, New — in every language: translate it in Translate & Adapt. A badge:Organic tag reads the same in every language, because Shopify does not translate tags.

  • hullara.ships_onOn products

    Date date

A pre-order date: the delivery estimate counts from it rather than from today.

  • custom.fitOn products

    Integer number_integer

Where the product sits on the fit scale, from -2 (runs small) to 2 (runs large).

  • custom.lastsOn variants

    Single line text single_line_text_field

How long the chosen size lasts — "about six months" — under the size buttons.

Written by an app

These you do not create: the app named fills them in, and the theme reads them when it does.

  • reviews.rating — Stars on the product page and in testimonials. (a reviews app)
  • reviews.rating_count — How many reviews the stars stand for. (a reviews app)
  • shopify--discovery--product_recommendation.complementary_products — The products a bundle or "Pairs well with" offers when set to complementary. (the Search & Discovery app)
