Shopify theme refund policies, compared

A paid Shopify theme is a digital product delivered the moment you pay, and most of the people selling one have decided that means no refunds. Not all of them. Here is what each policy actually says, in its own words, as read on 30 September 2026.

Where you buyRefund windowIn their words
Shopify Theme StoreNone"these transactions are considered final sale"
ShrineNone"a strict no refund policy"
Booster7 days"within 7 days of purchase"
DebutifyNone on plans"All subscription fees are non-refundable"
Hullara30 days"Thirty days from purchase, no questions asked"

Shopify Theme Store

"When purchasing a third-party theme from the Shopify Theme Store, these transactions are considered final sale. As a result, refunds cannot be provided by the theme developer."

What the Theme Store gives you instead is a real trial: you can "preview up to 19 paid themes at the same time", customise one in the theme editor, and keep those customisations if you buy it. That is a better answer than most refund windows, and it is the one to use if the theme you want is sold there.

Shrine

"SHRINE operates with a strict no refund policy. Upon purchasing any of our services or products, including but not limited to Shopify themes accessed via a license key, Users acknowledge and agree that all sales are final and no refunds will be issued under any circumstances."

The same page addresses the EU's fourteen-day right of withdrawal, and says that by accessing the theme immediately after purchase "you waive your right of withdrawal".

Booster

"We believe you'll love our product, but just in case you don't.. we'll be happy to return the money you paid for it within 7 days of purchase."

Seven days from purchase, and the page is explicit that "No refunds will be granted after the first 7 days of the original purchase whatsoever."

Debutify

Debutify sells a free plan, three monthly tiers and a one-time Lifetime plan, and the refund policy covers the paid ones:

"All subscription fees are non-refundable."

"All purchases of the Debutify Lifetime plan are final and non-refundable."

Refunds are offered where a customer was charged more than the plan's price or charged twice. What Debutify offers in place of a refund is a way to try first: a free plan with 26 widgets and sections, and a 3-day trial on the paid tiers.

Hullara

Thirty days from purchase, no questions asked, on a lifetime licence and on a monthly subscription alike. Email us from the address you paid with; Polar, our merchant of record, sends the money back to your card.

Two things happen with a refund that are worth knowing before you ask for one, because a policy that hides them is not really thirty days:

  • The licence is revoked, so downloads stop — and if the theme is still published on your store, the storefront shows a licence notice. Switch back to another theme first and you will never see it.
  • You stop using the theme. Keeping a refunded copy installed is a breach of the licence.

The full policy, including cancelling a subscription, is /legal/refunds.

What to check in any theme's refund policy

A window in days is only the first line. Before you pay for any theme, read for:

  • When the clock starts. Booster's seven days and Hullara's thirty both run from purchase, not from the day you first install the theme.
  • Whether subscriptions are covered. Debutify's policy excludes both its monthly plans and its Lifetime plan; Hullara's covers both.
  • What happens to the installed copy. Hullara's policy says a refund revokes the licence and what the storefront then shows. Most of the policies above do not say either way, and it is worth asking before you rely on it.
  • Whether you can try it first. A free plan, a trial, or the Theme Store's preview can answer the question a refund exists for — before you pay.

On the other question buyers ask before choosing — whether updates are included after the first year — see Does Shrine include updates?.
