Bow — Help & FAQ

Last updated: 2026-09-06

Install & setup (under 5 minutes)

  1. Install Bow from the App Store. You’ll land in a 3-step onboarding wizard.
  2. Create a wrap style (e.g. “Luxury Gift Box — $8”). Add an image if you like.
  3. Choose placement — cart page and product page. There is also a cart drawer option, but most themes (including Dawn and Horizon) do not accept app blocks inside the drawer; turn it on only if yours does. Gift wrap added on the product or cart page still shows correctly in the drawer either way.
  4. Message suggestions (optional) — a built-in bank of ready-made gift messages in English, Vietnamese, Spanish and French. Free on every plan, no API key, no per-message cost.
  5. Storefront block — in your theme editor (Online Store → Customize), open the template you want, press Add block, then switch to the Apps tab — app blocks are not in the default Blocks list, which is the usual reason “I can’t find it”. Pick Bow — Gift wrap and Save. Its Surface setting matches the template on its own; you only change it if you are placing the widget somewhere that is not a product or cart page.
  6. Checkout block (Shopify Plus only) — on Plus (and development) stores you can also show gift options on the checkout page itself: Settings → Checkout → Customize → Add app block → Gift options → Save. Like the storefront block, it isn’t added automatically. Non-Plus stores won’t see this option — that’s a Shopify platform limit, not a bug. You’re still covered: see the post-purchase offer below.
  7. Post-purchase offer (all plans) — to catch “Buy it now” / Shop Pay buyers who skip the cart, Bow can offer gift wrapping right after payment. Turn it on at Settings → Checkout → Post-purchase page → choose Bow (one post-purchase app per store).
  8. Start your 14-day free trial from Settings → Billing.

Heads-up: the storefront block (step 5) and the checkout block (step 6) are added in two different editors — adding one does not add the other. The checkout block is Plus-only; on other plans the post-purchase offer (step 7) covers express buyers instead.

How buyers use it

Buyers see the gift-wrap widget, pick a style (added as a separate cart line item), can write a gift message — optionally starting from one of the built-in suggestions — and can tick “Don’t show prices” for a gift receipt. Their selection survives variant changes and navigation.

What each plan unlocks

Wrapped-order limits, and what happens when you reach one

Bow meters wrapped orders per period, not total orders: Free 25 · Starter 250 · Growth 800 · Pro 2,500 · Enterprise 10,000. You’ll see a meter on Home and on Settings → Billing, with a warning at 80%.

Order operations

Gift orders are auto-tagged (gift-wrap, has-gift-message, hide-price) and the gift message is copied into the order notes for your packing team. This is a Starter feature; the tag names are fixed.

FAQ

Gift options don’t show at checkout — why?

The checkout block has to be added once in the checkout editor (it isn’t automatic). Go to Settings → Checkout → Customize → Add app block → Gift options → Save, on your published checkout profile. This is separate from the storefront theme block (install step 6 vs. step 5).

Will this break my theme?

No — it uses Theme App Extensions (app blocks), so nothing is injected into your theme code and it removes cleanly on uninstall.

Are there per-order fees?

No. Flat monthly pricing, plus optional one-time top-up packs if you need more wrapped orders than your plan allows.

Where do the message suggestions come from?

From a fixed, built-in bank of phrases in four languages, chosen by occasion. Nothing is written on the fly, nothing about your store or your buyers is sent anywhere, and there is no key to configure and no usage to pay for.

Can I put the widget in my cart drawer?

Only if your theme’s drawer accepts app blocks — most do not, including Dawn and Horizon. This is a theme limitation, not something Bow can switch on. Gift wrap chosen on the product or cart page still appears correctly in the drawer.

Privacy — what Bow stores

Short version: Bow stores your shop’s settings and counts of what happened, not your customers’ identities. Precisely:
